The Madness and Method of Social Design

Cheryl Heller

9:15am

There is no longer a need to convince people that our country, our world, our species is heading for the deep end of the pool with no idea how to swim there. What can design do? What should design do? How can designers have a career, happiness, money and stability while contributing to the health of society and the planet rather than destroying them?  And oh yes, how can we be sure design can do that?  Cheryl Heller presents the big picture of the practice of social design, the opportunities it offers for fulfillment, and how to be a part of it.

Inclusive Design: Panel Discussion with Safwat Saleem

Every design decision has the potential to include or exclude our users. Inclusive design focuses on the impact understanding user diversity makes to informing these decisions, and helps us design experiences that are inclusive to as many people as possible. User diversity covers variation in capabilities, needs, gender identities, beliefs, and behaviors. In this panel we’ll discuss what it takes to design the inclusive experiences of tomorrow, and the diverse teams it’ll take to build them.
